Erin already owns an authentic Samurai Sword (Cold Steel/Special Projects by Lynn Thompson), so with the extra leather from Tandy, she created the sword frog to carry it. Above you can see the pattern she created, and how it would hang on the belt. It would have been VERY thick to sew, so she connected the belt loop ends with Aleene's glue, but discovered that it was separating a little towards the end of the convention, so she reinforced it with more. You can also see that the front sleeve is shorter than the rear sleeve.
Erin reinforced the slot openings with some loops of soldered 12 gauge solid copper wire pulled from house wiring Romex. Then she pulled leather flaps over the rings and glued them into place to cover the wire. This would be solid and supporting of the leather straps drawn through the hole and carrying the weight of the sword, not allowing the holes to pull out of shape.
The strap slips through the slot in the larger body portion of the sleeve, creating the proper tension to hold the sword without twisting, slipping, or dumping. Then the belt is threaded through the loops.
She did an excellent job!
